THE FULL GIST!! What Led To Break Up Of Ooni’s Marriage To Olori Wuraola

Yesterday there were reports that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi’s marriage to his wife Olori Wuraola has crashed after just 17 months and we can tell you authoritatively that this is true.

A few weeks ago, the Ooni told his wife he was no longer interested in the marriage and asked her to leave. The former Olori has relocated from Osun state and now lives in Lagos.

So what led to the marriage break up? Here’s all we know and this is authoritative.

The Ooni married Olori Wuraola shortly after meeting her last year. According to sources close to the estranged couple, after he ascended the throne, a wife was needed asap and he was introduced to Wuraola, who at the time was with a Lebanese business man. But immediately the Ooni indicated interest to marry her, she quickly dumped the Lebanese man and went with the new Ooni.

“She was with this guy in February 2016, infact she had their photo on her Whatsapp DP and just the following month, in March, she was married to the Ooni. We were all surprised” a source close to the former Olori told LIB exclusively

“The funny thing is; the Ooni was advised not to marry her. Former president Obasanjo himself, who regards the Ooni highly, advised him to marry someone else but the Ooni turned a deaf ear to his plea. She had been married before to a former governor and a Lebanese man, so many of his inner circle friends wanted another woman for him, but he was adamant” the source continued.

We gathered that the Olori still ran to the same Obasanjo for help and advise, when the Ooni threatened to marry another wife. Obasanjo didn’t do much according to what we gathered.

According to another source, Olori Wuraola and the Ooni didn’t court for long and didn’t really know each other that well before getting married. And she went into the marriage with high expectations from the new Ooni, but when those expectations were not met, she allegedly started to act up.

“They have been having issues for many months now. But the Ooni finally knew his marriage to Wuraola was nearing its end after they returned from London in March.

While there, he suspected the Olori was not 100% loyal to him after he saw some text messages on her phone. I wish I could go into details of what he saw. Before then, she had done so many things, including traveling abroad to be by herself, and many other things that the Ooni was bitter about” the source continued.

According to what we gathered, after the Olori staged the walk against domestic violence in Lagos in July, the Ooni told a few friends that his marriage to the Olori was over, but it wasn’t until about two weeks ago that he informed her family that he no longer wanted the marraige and asked the Olori to leave.

LIB asked the source how they could have been having marital issues as far back as March 2017 when the Ooni sent out a loving birthday shout out to the Olori in April. The source laughed and said

“Everyone who knows the Ooni knows he would never write that kind of message publicly. We know him. He himself was surprised to see the message online on her birthday but didn’t react, not to embarrass her. The Olori wrote the message herself and posted it on his IG page. I can assure you that message was not from the Ooni”

The message read:

“Happy birthday to my beautiful wife, my queen. I pray on this day you continue to increase in strength, grace and wisdom. I love you very much”

When we asked the source if they thought the marriage could be save, he said no!

“It’s final. He’s done with the marriage but don’t be surprised if there’s a media battle betweem them, especially from the Olori”.

2017 Admission: JAMB Pegs Cut-Off Marks For Universities At 120, 100 For Polytechnics

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has finally fixed the minimum cut-off marks for 2017, despite the ongoing strike by the academic staff union of universities.

The Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, at a policy meeting on the 2017/2018 admission exercise in Abuja, announced 120 as the minimum cut-off marks for admissions into universities in Nigeria.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, and heads of tertiary institutions across the country.

The board also pegged the cut-off mark for admission into polytechnics and colleges of education at 100, while that of innovative enterprising institutes was pegged at 110.

Professor Oloyede, however, said the institutions are at liberty to raise their cut off marks for admission above the minimum benchmark set by the board, but that on no account should any higher institution offer admissions to candidates who scored lower marks.

It was also agreed at the meeting that admission into first choice universities should close on October 15 while December 15 was set as the closure date for admission into second choice institutions.

Institutions also have the liberty to choose from candidates who could not secure first choice admissions.

The registrar also said candidates offered courses other than their preferred choices may be given up to three days to accept or reject the courses. Those who accept new courses given to them would be required to make changes on JAMB website.

He added that admissions would be given by institutions based on agreed quotas prescribed by regulatory bodies including National Universities Commission, National Commission for Colleges of Education and National Board for Technical Education. Merit, catchment areas, and educationally disadvantaged states would be among the criteria.

JAMB has also raised the issue of introducing a Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) to ensure quality control, transparency, and credibility of the admission process.

Speaking of the new policy, an attendee at a meeting recently organised by the board explained the policy space will be created in the JAMB portal where institutions can go and ‘request for students in Nigeria who score their cut off points.

These institutions will then write to JAMB to request for the students and also give them (students) three days to respond. Only three universities can
request for a candidate should the policy be adopted.

The new policy is also expected to allow Nigerian institutions peg their cut off marks after holding a meeting with their respective senates.

It was also learnt that should the new policy be adopted, it will give the academic board or senate of an institution the power to ‘allocate percentages to JAMB, the school and O’level results as these will be calculated to get the students’ cut off marks for post-UTME.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, which began a meeting on Monday, is expected to formally announce a new holistic policy on Tuesday when the body is expected to conclude its ongoing deliberation.

The meeting, which involves admission officers of Nigerian tertiary institutions, is taking place at the National Judicial Institute in Abuja.

Issues discussed at the meeting include the introduction of Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) to ensure quality control, transparency and credibility of the admission process, NEWBUSTER.COM learnt.

An attendee at Monday’s meeting explained that the new policy is expected to make provision for a ‘market place’ in the JAMB portal where institutions can go and ‘request for students in Nigeria who score their cut off points.’

These institutions will write to JAMB to request for the students and also give them (students) three days to respond. Also, only three universities can request for a candidate if the policy is adopted.

The new policy is also expected to allow institutions in Nigeria peg their cut off point after meeting with their respective senates.

NEWBUSTER.COM learnt that the new policy will also give the academic board or senate of an institution the power to ‘allocate percentages to JAMB, the school and O’level results as these will be calculated to get the students’ cut off marks for post-UTME.’

It was also learnt that JAMB wants to ensure there is a unified time for closing admission in all universities.

If the policy sails through, there will be a portal for admission which will be based on cut off points, quota system and catchment areas.

“The new system is such that institutions can only admit those who meet their cut off points,” an admission officer for a tertiary institution who was at the meeting told NEWBUSTER.COM “If a candidate does not meet the cut off, no matter whom he or she knows, such person cannot be admitted.”

The official said the system was demonstrated to all the attendees at Monday’s meeting, most of whom expressed satisfaction with it.

Also, the policy intends to make provisions for candidates to accept and reject any admission being offered to them.

The intended policy also looks out for candidates who are unable to go for National Youth Service, NYSC, because they do not have JAMB admission letters. This set of students could be asked to pay a fee, about N10,000 for regularisation and would be able to go for the youth service.

JAMB is expected to formally brief journalists on these new policies on Tuesday afternoon.

JAMB delists management courses in seven universities

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has delisted management courses of some universities in its current admission brochure.

They are Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Modibbo Adamawa Federal University of Technology, Yola (MAUTY), Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) and University of Agriculture, Makurdi (UAW).

This is sequel to an order by the federal government that the universities of Agriculture and Technology should stop running management courses and focus on their core mandates.

The directive was issued by the Ministry of Education after it was approved recently by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, explained that the decision to delist the programmes was not taken by the Board as being suggested by the some staff and students of the universities affected.

“It was a ministerial decision based on FEC meeting and as an agency of government, we are to implement government decisions.,” he told Sun.

“So, in the concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the concerned institutions did not field candidates.”

Meanwhile, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the House Committee on Tertiary Education have queried the directive.

Reacting, ASUU FUNAAB chairman, Dr. Adebayo Oni, said the national body of the union was aware of the government decision but noted that it was done without proper consultation with affected universities and stakeholders.

He said: “FUNAAB branch took the issue to our zonal branch meeting which reported same at the national level. The delisting of the programme was done in haste and it is illegal by JAMB.

“The courses were accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and relevant bodies. University vice-chancellors were not carried along.”
